The April 4, 2016 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes all the info you need before tonight’s season opener, Garrett Anderson throwing out the Halos’ first pitch, and more…

The Story: Angels ready to go toe-to-toe with Cubs in season opener

MWAH Says: This year is the 50th anniversary of Angels stadium, so I imagine their will be quite a bit of pomp and circumstance prior to tonight’s 7:05pm PDT start time. Just when those pre-game ceremonies will begin is something of a mystery, so if you’re going to the game get there early (if you can).

The Story: 16 questions to keep an eye on as the Angels begin the 2016 season

MWAH Says: A solid summary from the OCR’s Jeff Fletcher of the many things fans can watch out for over the course of the Angels’ season. I think the big key will be the performance of Garrett Richards, Andrew Heaney, and Tyler Skaggs at the top of the rotation. If they all struggle, it won’t matter what the offense can do.

The Story: Garrett Anderson to throw out the first pitch

MWAH Says: So long as GA’s pitch doesn’t break any coaches’ legs, it’ll be a runaway success.

The Story: Jered Weaver will not start the year on the disabled list

MWAH Says: At this point I guess I’d rather have Weaver pitch the fourth game of the season than Matt Shoemaker. Neither is a great option right now, but Shoemaker just cannot seem to stop giving up dingers. He allowed nine home runs in 25 innings this spring (3.2 HR/9), and that doesn’t even include the pair he surrendered in his minor-league outing last week. With Weaver joining the team straight away, there was no room left on the roster for Greg Mahle; he will instead start the season at Triple-A.

The Story: Halos take final spring game, 6-4, over Cubs

MWAH Says: The Angels concluded the spring on a high note, sweeping the Freeway Series over the weekend then working a comeback victory over the World Series favorites on Sunday. Not including split-squad games, the Halos went 15-1-4 in their last 20 preseason games. Let’s hope they can keep that going into the regular season.

The Story: Angels sign LHP Neal Cotts to a minor-league deal

MWAH Says: Man, that Triple-A bullpen depth is looking pretty good. Cotts will join Greg Mahle, Al Alburquerque, Javy Guerra, Deolis Guerra, and A.J. Achter in the Salt Lake bullpen.

The Story: Angels’ top draft pick from 2013, LHP Hunter Green, retires

MWAH Says: Green had a lot of promise on the ball field, but the injury bug wouldn’t let up. In the two-plus seasons since the Angels drafted him, the southpaw tossed only 16⅔ innings outside of the club’s instructional league. At just 20 years old, he still has a bright future ahead of him. We wish him all the best.

The Story: Ranking all 30 MLB opening day starters

MWAH Says: Richards ranks 22nd on Yahoo’s list, right below Edinson Volquez, Ervin Santana, and Tyson Ross. Seems kinda low.
