The November 30, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Boston possibly shopping Han-Ram around, a Halos starter tying the knot, and more…
The Story: Red Sox “seem to be” asking Angels and two other teams about Hanley Ramirez
MWAH Says: Aging, injury-prone player owed ~$66 million the next three years coming off the worst season of his career? Sign me up! Really, though, the Angels should at least have a chat with Dombrowski about how much money he’d eat to get rid of Hanley. Don’t know why Boston ever thought him playing left field was a good idea. He’s not great defensively at third either, but certainly not any worse than David Freese or Daniel Murphy. And if his shoulder is healed—a big “if”—he’s easily the best offensive player (potentially) available at the hot corner. Could DH too. Would still much rather spend that money on Jason Heyward or Justin Upton, though.
The Story: Hector Santiago got married on Friday
MWAH Says: Congrats to Hector and his wife Esther. Not sure I’ve ever heard of a Thanksgiving weekend wedding, but I suppose it makes sense if family’s already going to be in town.
The Story: Chad Hinshaw used AFL to refine approach at the plate
MWAH Says: Another article about Hinshaw reuniting with his hitting coach from High-A, Brent Del Chiaro. This one delves into a bit more about what exactly the two were working on in Mesa the last two months. I hope it sticks because the Halos could use Hinshaw as a fourth outfielder next season.
The Story: Angels resign Michael Brady, sign Edward Paredes to minor-league deals
MWAH Says: Brady reportedly gets a Spring Training invite with his contract. The right-hander had a stellar 9.64 K/BB ratio in Double-A Arkansas this past season, but those strong peripherals weren’t reflected in his ERA (3.77). It may be that he’s a little too around the plate, if you know what I mean. Paredes hasn’t played affliated ball since 2013, so is likely organizational filler.
The Story: Yasiel Puig to be investigated by MLB for part in bar brawl
MWAH Says: There were reports early on that Puig shoved his sister, but police are saying the only actual physical altercation was between Puig and a bouncer. Guess TMZ isn’t a reliable news source… who knew!? Despite the quashing of the rumor, MLB is still planning to investigate Puig under its new domestic violence policy.
The Story: Blue Jays sign J.A. Happ to three-year, $36 million deal
MWAH Says: So I guess it’s impossible to pay a mid-rotation starter less than $10 million/year now? I’m glad the Angels have enough starter depth that they don’t need to fork over like $30 million for Chris Young.
