Halo Headlines: Ron Roenicke returns, Bud Bluck may too

The November 19, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes an attempt to rebuild the glory days on the coaching staff, moving a bunch of other coaches around within the organization, and more…

The Story: Ron Roenicke hired back as third base coach

MWAH Says: A literal bag of sand would have probably been a better option than Gary DiSarcina, so getting a legit upgrade in Roenicke just makes it that much better. Ron was mostly solid as the club’s third base coach from 2000-2005. No reason to think he won’t be again this time around.

The Story: Bud Black might be joining the front office

MWAH Says: This one was confirmed and then it wasn’t and then it was again, so I dunno. It makes way too much sense not to happen, if you ask me. If/when he is officially hired, I imagine he’ll work closely with Billy Eppler and maybe act as a sort of liaison between the front office and the coaching staff.

The Story: Alfredo Griffin, Steve Soliz get new responsibilities

MWAH Says: With DiSarcina moving across the diamond, Griffin will move to full-time infield coach. Soliz, meanwhile, will move from his long-time role as bullpen coach to “catching and information coach,” whatever that is.  No idea who will be taking over in the bullpen.

The Story: Mike Gallego hired as director of baseball development

MWAH Says: I’m at a loss as to how this differs from the plethora of other roles dealing with the farm system—i.e. player development, farm director—but it’s something. Gallego was third base coach for the A’s last season and had worked in that capacity around the league for more than a decade.

The Story: Annual Angels canned food drive starts Friday

MWAH Says: If you have the time this weekend, stop by the stadium this weekend and help make sure local families don’t go without food for the holidays. The more you donate, the more batting practice you get to take on the field. It’s a win-win!

The Story: Angels rearrange minor-league coaching staffs

MWAH Says: The big-league staff wasn’t the only one to get a face lift. Denny Hocking will move from managing the Class A+ club to being the org’s roving infield coordinator. Chad Tracy will take his place managing in the Inland Empire. Also, Keith Johnson will return to managing Triple-A Salt Lake.

The Story: Solar Sox win, but Hinshaw’s streak ends

MWAH Says: Chad Hinshaw’s streak of consecutive 2-for-4 games ends at three. He went hitless on Wednesday, but still walked once and scored two of the team’s six runs. Eric Aguilera picked up the slack in the hits department, notching a 2-for-4 game for himself.
