Halo Headlines: Servais gaining traction in Seattle, Mattingly out in LA

The October 22, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes more rumors about the impending departure of front-office personnel, the start of what’s likely to be months of Mike Scioscia speculation, and more…

The Story: Servais “gaining traction” in Seattle managing hunt

MWAH Says: Slowly but surely Jerry Dipoto is building up his new front office and coaching staffs. He hasn’t poached anyone from the Angels staff just yet, but it’s looking more and more likely that either Scott Servais or Tim Bogar will be the club’s next manager. Bogar is reportedly the “leading candidate” at the moment, but Servais is moving up the list. No matter who ultimately gets the gig, I imagine both will ultimately join Dipoto’s staff in some capacity.

The Story: Dodgers, Don Mattingly part ways

MWAH Says: Cue dozens of “Will Mike Scioscia leave the Angels for LA?” articles. I’m like 99.999% sure the answer is a hard “No.” The Dodgers front office wants someone who they can easily influence into applying new, progressive tactics on the field. Scioscia is the exact opposite of that. Not gonna happen. Bud Black on the other hand…

My favorite part of the Mattingly firing story: When he went into his meeting with the brass, an extension was initially discussed. He ended up out of a job. Hell of a turnaround.

The Story: Dan Haren officially retires

MWAH Says: Haren never got an opportunity to pitch this postseason, sadly, meaning his most recent (and final) playoff appearance is still from way back in 2006. Gotta think the Cubs could’ve gotten him in to face a batter toward the end there. Oh well. Thirteen years and three All-Star Games is a pretty good run.

The Story: Harrison Cooney takes loss in AFL matchup

MWAH Says: Cooney preserved the 3-3 tie in his first inning of work, but then came back out and allowed a walk-off dinger to his third batter in the ninth. That’s now 18 runs allowed in 7.2 IP for the Angels’ quartet of AFL pitchers. Caleb Adams got a start in left Wednesday, going 1-for-4 with a single.

The Story: Mets advance to World Series

MWAH Says: Thanks to an absolute thrashing of the Cubs, former Halos Bartolo Colon, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, and Terry Collins all get to make their first appearances in the Fall Classic. Really never thought I’d say that about any of those three. Especially not in 2015.
