The October 23, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Scott Servais getting hired as Mariners manager, Matt Klentak potentially leaving the team as early as Monday, and more…

The Story: Scott Servais named M’s manager

MWAH Says: Jerry Dipoto is getting the band back together, expect this time Servais is on lead vocals. The now former Angels assistant GM has never managed at any level, so it should be interesting to see how he adapts to the role. Does he follow in the footsteps of fellow inexperienced catcher Brad Ausmus and have writers calling for his head by the end of each season? Or does he follow in the path of other fellow inexperienced catcher Kevin Cash and sort of blend in with the scenery? Oh yeah, Tim Bogar was also poached from the Angels front office. He’ll be playing bass the bench coach.

The Story: Phillies to name new GM by Monday

MWAH Says: The Angels’ other assistant GM, Matt Klentak, is one of three finalists for the position. The others are J.J. Picollo and Mr. E. Guest. The club is apparently waiting for the end of the ALCS to make its decision, which could mean Picollo, who works for the Royals, is their man. No idea whether Klentak will stay if he doesn’t get the gig.

The Story: Mark McGwire a hitting coach candidate?

MWAH Says: Total speculation from the LA Times’ Bill Shaikin, but makes sense. McGwire has always been a Southern California guy, and if the Dodgers decide to revamp their coaching staff now that Mattingly is gone that could open the door for Big Mac to make his way down the 5. I still think the job will go to Dave Hansen, but either guy would be great.

The Story: 30 for 30 – Angels in the Outfield

MWAH Says: A pretty funny spoof of ESPN’s popular documentary series. Does a great job of illuminating just how absurd Angels in the Outfield was, even beyond the supernatural stuff. No cameos from Matthew McConaughey or Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but Neal McDonough does make an appearance.

The Story: Solar Sox lose again, drop to 1-7

MWAH Says: The good news is that Angels pitching wasn’t to blame for this one. None of their four guys got on the mound. Chad Hinshaw and Eric Aguilera were in the starting lineup though. Hinshaw went 1-for-4 with a single, and Aguilera went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the fall. Ryan Etsell and his 16.88 ERA get the start Friday.

The Story: Teixeira open to Anaheim trade?

MWAH Says: I’ve never heard of the guy who tweeted this and no one else has picked up on it in the last 24 hours, so take this one with a massive grain of salt. Teixeira being open to waive his no-trade clause makes some sense given the emergence of Greg Bird and the continued presence of Alex Rodriguez in New York, but his wanting to come to Anaheim doesn’t pass the smell test. No other team in baseball is more immovable at first base than the Angels, so unless he’s happy with being full-time DH he’s probably better off anywhere else.
