The September 29, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Joe Smith confident he’ll return this week, Chris Gwynn interviewing for the Angels GM job, and more…

The Story: Joe Smith could return this week

MWAH Says: Man, would this be a godsend. The bullpen has been great the last few games, but expecting them to continue throwing three or four scoreless innings every night for the next week is unrealistic. Putting Smith back atop the bullpen pyramid could go a long way to ensuring no one gets overworked to the point of implosion.

The Story: Chris Gwynn interviews for GM opening

MWAH Says: Yankees AGM is still widely presumed to be the favorite for the job, but Gwynn is an interesting candidate. He’s currently the farm director for the Seattle Mariners and before that worked as a scout for the Padres for several years. The Angels actually drafted Gwynn out of high school way back in 1982, but he opted for college at San Diego State, where his brother would eventually coach.

The Story: Mariners hire Jerry Dipoto as new GM

MWAH Says: Speaking of general managers… Dipoto was without a GM job for all of three months, then landed what is probably his dream gig. Seattle is famous for having owners that never interfere with day-to-day baseball happenings, so Dipoto probably feels like a kid in a candy store right now.

The Story: Angels sign Mat Latos

MWAH Says: Meh. I doubt that Latos even picks up a ball in the next week unless the Angels happen to find themselves in a blowout.
