The October 29, 2015 edition of Los Angeles Angels news includes Mike Butcher getting a new gig, Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun earning accolades for their defense, and more…

The Story: Mike Butcher hired as Arizona’s pitching coach

MWAH Says: Well that didn’t take long. Butcher was unemployed for what, like a week? Not only did he land a new gig in no time, he also managed to get one in his home state. Butcher reportedly wowed the Diamondbacks in his interview by laying out a plan for every starter in their rotation. So congratulations to Butcher on joining an organization that’s awed by basic job preparation. If an analytics job opens up there, my plan will be to dazzle them by clicking the “More Stats” tab on the team’s Baseball-Reference page.

The Story: Mike Trout, Kole Calhoun named Gold Glove finalists

MWAH Says: Johnny Giavotella was robbed! Lmao. Anywho, Calhoun seems to be a good bet to win his first Gold Glove, while Trout will likely fall short for the fourth consecutive year. He can’t lose to Adam Jones this time, which is a plus I guess. Kevin Kiermaier is at least a demonstrably better fielder. We won’t know for sure until the second week of November.

The Story: Whole Angels broadcast crew back for 2016

MWAH Says: It seems those rumors of Victor Rojas leaving the team were unfounded. Thank goodness. IMO, Rojas is one of the better play-by-play guys out there, and his in-game rapport with Gubizca seems to get stronger every year. As for Terry Smith and Mark Langston… I suppose they deserve some sort of award for being the only radio broadcast so dull you can forget you’re even listening to a baseball game. The ease with which their voices become white noise is astounding.

The Story: Eric Chavez likely to be only Yankees FO import

MWAH Says: Billy Eppler is going to have to look outside of New York to find a new assistant GM and farm system director. Alex Anthopolous is very recently unemployed, so maybe he’d be up for sort of super-assistant role? Sounds like he got burnt out in Toronto, so maybe taking on a less taxing for a while would be appealing. One can dream.

The Story: Trout named to Sporting News AL All-Star Team

MWAH Says: We’ve entered the “Mike Trout getting daily accolades” portion of the offseason. Always a good time.

The Story:  Adams, Aguilera help key 11-10 AFL squad win

MWAH Says: More good hitting from the Angels’ prospects. Caleb Adams went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI; Eric Aguilera went 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, and two runs scored. For once, Angels pitchers weren’t the reason the Solar Sox gave up a bunch of runs.
