Joel Hanrahan left the mound in the 9th last night after blowing the save and a strain to his right forearm. Hanrahan was just recently back from the DL for a hammy injury and before he could pitch more than a couple of outings, he's back on the DL. Andrew Bailey was also placed on the DL, so both of the Sox closers are currently not available. The alleged strength of our bullpen is currently missing in action.
The Sox called up Allen Webster to replace Hanrahan on the 40 Man Roster. Webster will start against the Twins on Wednesday and Felix Doubront will be available out of the bullpen if needed until his next turn in the rotation. As for who will be the closer for the time being, the Sox announced that it will be Junichi Tazawa with Koji Uehara remaining in the 8th inning role. Tazawa has been one of the most consistent arms in the bullpen, so I'm totally comfortable with him in the closing role until Bailey is ready to jump back into that role.
