It’s been four years to the day since Sean Casey, The Mayor, was thrown out from left field … at first base. Casey went from the teammate who’s not afraid to dish out some gratuitous ass slaps and lingering hugs to the teammate who’s not afraid to dish out some gratuitous ass slaps and lingering hugs and also got thrown out at first base from left field.
On August 24, 2006 at Comerica Park, Casey hit a line drive just off the glove of Chicago White Sox third baseman Joe Crede. The ball trickled to left fielder Pablo Ozuna, who came up throwing to first like he was throwing a runner out at the plate. Casey, unable to unhinge the piano from his back, lunged toward first as a last ditch effort to be safe, but the damage had been done.
Sean Casey. The Mayor. Mr. Nice Guy. Officially really, really embarrassed. Happy anniversary, Mr. Mayor.
