With no guarantee of playing time in the 2009-2010 season, UConn Huskies men’s basketball player Scottie Haralson has decided to transfer to the University of Tulsa. Haralson made a visit there this weekend and obviously decided that Tulsa was a good fit for him.
“Scottie is a great addition to our team. He compliments DJ Magley extremely well for the future, and then obviously losing Ben Uzoh next year he can step in there,” said Tulsa head basketball coach Doug Wojcik. “Scottie fills a huge need. He’s a big, strong and powerful kid who can really shoot the basketball. He was a very exceptional high school player with national recognition.”
A true freshman last year, Haralson appeared in 17 games last season a Huskies team that lost in the Final Four to Michigan State. He averaged 1.4 points in 4.1 minutes of action per game.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Haralson must sit out the 2009-2010 season. He will have three years of eligibility left beginning in the 2010-11 season.
With Haralson tranferring, it opens up a scholarship for Jim Calhoun. Another scholarship could open up if Ater Majok stays in the NBA Draft but that’s not likely to happen.
