SMOOTHIE KING ARENA, NEW ORLEANS, LA — Tim Hardaway, Jr. and Dion Waiters stole the show, as well as MVP Andre Drummond‘s 30 points, 25 rebounds and a fallen trophy to honor his achievement, overshadowing Harrison Barnes‘s game-leading +/- of +10 (which meant nothing!):

Although #DubNation was certainly rooting for him (see the comments of the pregame Instagram post below), Barnes couldn’t ride his hot shooting touch from the morning practice and only scored 2 points on 1-for-7 shooting in the first half, but came back with 14 points in the second half to finish with 16 points on 5-for-12 shooting (4-for-5 in the second half), 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. In last year’s game, he scored 12 points.

Barnes’s performance went kind of like the season he’s having. Warriors fans and Barnes detractors used the opportunity to bemoan his play.

His second half mini-redemption was brief, and he scored most of his remaining points in the beginning.

After the game, Barnes spoke with LetsGoWarriors.com.

“I tried to do the best I could. Shots weren’t falling in the first half, but I got them in the second, trying to play as best team defense as I could,” Barnes said, chuckling at the reference to the general lack of defense prevalent in all-star games, but especially this one for the rookies and sophomores.

Next up for Barnes is tonight’s Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. How is he approaching it mentally?

“I’ve honestly never been in a dunk contest,” Barnes said, “so I don’t really have a mental approach for that. Just kind of go out there and see how I feel.”
