Patriot’s Day is supposed to be a great day for Red Sox fans; head towards Fenway early and stop at a watering hole for a beverage before most of people in the rest of the country even get to work. The weather was perfect and the Sox had just beaten the Rays in the last three games, a rare four-game sweep was within reach.
Before the first pint could be tipped back at the Cask ‘n Flagon, the Hub was ablaze with fallout from Valentine’s comments about Kevin Youkilis. Pedey came to Youk’s defense (see video below).
Bobby Valentine apologized for the remarks and with the first pitch from Bard the issue to rest for a moment. Then Bobby V. left Bard in the game even Grady Little knew it was time for a call to the bullpen. Bard walked in what would be the winning run and Valentine was loudly booed on his way to the mound (there were some YOOOUUUKKKs in there as well).
This was a very bad day for Valentine; he has lost the support from most of Red Sox Nation and may not be able to get it back. Winning cures everything and that is what Valentine will need to survive his first crisis as manager of the Red Sox.
