Hasheem Thabeet Goes No. 2 Overall To Memphis Grizzlies

Former UConn Huskies center Hasheem Thabeet has a new home as he was selected No. 2 overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft.

As a junior at UConn, Thabeet averaged 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game. In three seasons at UConn, Thabeet blocked a total of 418 shots in 100 career games.

He will be the first NBA player from Tanzania and is the 5th player UConn to be drafted in the top 5. He’ll join former Husky Rudy Gay in Memphis.
