After three absolutely fantastic starts by Eduardo Rodriguez, he is quickly making a case to be the Red Sox ace. But I’m not sold yet. I agree that he has pitched three great games and should be 3-0, but it’s just way too early for me to say he is the Sox savior. If Rodriguez is able to stay consistent and finish with decent numbers, than yes I’ll consider him ace of the staff. He simply needs way more innings to judge how good he is. Clearly he has the potential to be something special.
We need to see how he responds to a tough outing. It’s how he does after a hard loss that will show us if he is mentally ready to be our ace. I hope I’m wrong and Rodriguez goes the rest of the year without a tough outing, but no one expecting that to happen.
In Rodriguez’s first 3 starts he is 2-0 with a 0.44 ERA. In these 3 games he has pitched 20.2 innings and has given up only 8 hits. But the one stat that really stands out to me is the 21 strikeouts, which is very impressive. That means Rodriguez has faced 62 total batters and has struck out 21 of them. With stats like that it is very hard to say he is not the ace. But I need to see him pitch more and see how he responds to a tough outing. I hope he keep up the great stats as he is a great addition to the Sox rotation.
