Heard Around the ‘Shoe – 11/2/2016

Welcome to your tri-weekly look at all things Ohio State recruiting. Let’s get started!

Official Visit Saturday:

The Buckeyes host the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday night in prime time, and it will also be a prime time recruiting weekend as well. Many of Ohio State’s current commitments will be on hand trying to sway the uncommitted prospects to sign with the Buckeyes.

5-Star wide receiver Trevon Grimes will be in attendance a few weeks after surgery to repair his ACL. He will be hooking up with Tate Martell and video commitment buddy Tyjon Lindsey to try and build on the #Select17 class as well as some 2018 kids. Recruiting is all about relationships that you build with the coaching staff and the other kids that are coming to play at the same school as you. There are already a lot of bonds built by this class, and they will only continue to grow as these guys get to spend more time with each other. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a Buckeye commitment this weekend.

Martell and Lindsey’s Bishop Gorman teammate Bubba Bolden will also be on hand this weekend as well.

Big Time Official Visit for 5-Star Linebacker:

Anthony Hines, a 5-star linebacker out of Plano, Texas has confirmed that he will be on campus this weekend to watch the Buckeyes take on Nebraska. Hines along with Baron Browning are probably the top two linebackers that Ohio State is currently chasing. While I like the Buckeyes chances with Browning a lot more than Hines, getting him on campus this weekend is big. It should be a great atmosphere for college football, and with so many commitments coming to the game he should feel the family vibe this weekend.

This will be Hines 5th and final official visit as he has already visited UCLA, Florida, Penn State and Texas A&M. Oklahoma and Texas A&M are currently tied atop his crystal ball projections with 38% each, with Texas and Baylor coming in 3rd and 4th.

While it will be nice to get Hines on campus and show him what Ohio State football is all about, I put the chances of him committing to the Buckeyes at less than 5% when all is said and done. Hines has over 90 offers to choose from, so even getting an official visit from him is a small victory.

Another Buckeye Commit Gets All-American Invite:

Buckeye commitments keep racking up invites to prestigious All-American games. JK Dobbins, the #1 all-purpose back in the class of 2017 recently received his invitation to participate in the Army All-American game on January 7th, 2017. Dobbins has been sidelined all season with an injury he suffered on the first play from scrimmage this season, however per Ari Wasserman at Cleveland.com he may end up getting to play one more high school game after all.

La Grange coach Matt Kates told the Austin American-Statesman that a decision on whether Dobbins plays will be made later by the running back.

Currently Dobbins is the only running back in the class of 2017 to have committed to the Buckeyes after Todd Sibley decommitted. The Buckeyes are still pursuing Cam Akers out of Mississippi, but it seems that he is trending away from the Buckeyes lately.

Urban Meyer seems to think he has a good one in Dobbins as he told him that he is better at his age than Ezekiel Elliott was at his, and we all know what Zeke is up to these days in the NFL.

Buckeyes offer Tennessee Wide Out:

The Buckeye coaching staff is getting a head start on 2019 recruiting, and last week they offered Trey Knox, a 6-4 190lb. wide receiver out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Knox was a visitor last week when the Buckeyes took on Northwestern along with his teammate Master Teague. Knox currently holds three other offers in addition to Ohio State: Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.
