Help Haiti: How the NBA and Samuel Dalembert have lent a hand, and HOW we can as well

By now we’ve all seen the devastation and the dispair caused by Tuesday night’s earthquake in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.

Haiti has been ravaged as of late by natural disasters and they were slowly recovering from the hurricanes of 2008, only to find themselves once again scrambling for shelter, food, and supplies. The response from around the world has been incredible, as it was with the Asian Tsunami disaster of 2004.

Haitian-Canadian and Philadelphia 76er Samuel Dalembert personally donated $100,000 plus matching fans’ donations during the Sixers’ home game this past Friday night to UNICEF for Haiti Relief Efforts on behalf of his foundation

The NBA and the Players Association have donated one million dollars in support and have also issued a call to action asking people to support UNICEF.

Samuel was on ‘Larry King Live’ this week speaking about the disaster that has had such an effect on his homeland:

How YOU can help:

For our fellow Canadian readers, the Government of Canada has earmarked 50 million dollars that they will be using to match all donations made by Canadians to eligible charitable organizations in support of relief efforts for Haiti made between January 12th & February 12th, 2010! If you want to show your support, this is the perfect opportunity to ensure your donations are fully maximized.

For our American readers, please check out this comprehensive list provided by InterAction which gives a list of organizations across the United States that are actively providing assistance in response to the earthquake.

For our international readers, worldwide organizations such as Unicef, International Committee of the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and United Nations World Food Programme are just some of the worthy organizations that you can donate to.

Our thoughts, prayers, and support will continue to be with all those affected by this tragedy.
