We have a great staff here at Nittany Lions Den, but with so many conflicting schedules and responsibilities it can be difficult at times to provide the most up-to-date information to our readers and we are always on the lookout for more consistent help. As we begin to get a little closer to the start of the college football season we are officially taking your virtual applications in hopes of finding someone capable of filling a demanding role on a volunteer basis.
We are looking for someone to become our official Penn State football correspondent for the 2012 season. Ideally we are looking for someone who has a firm grip on Penn State football and the Big Ten and is able to relate what is happening at Penn State with the larger stories around the nation. It is our hope that Nittany Lions Den will be granted a media credential and a seat in the press box, but that remains to be seen at this point. This means we expect our football correspondent to attend games and report in a respectful manner and adhere to the press box code (there is no cheering in the press box and shorts and a white t-shirt and face paint is generally frowned upon).
I have been fortunate to cover Penn State for the past couple of years in the press box and it is a rewarding experience and I hope that some ambitious sports writer will seize this potential opportunity.

Other duties that will be expected of the football correspondent will include:
- Organizing game previews and recaps for each game of the season (including any postseason games if necessary) in a timely manner
- Representing Nittany Lions Den on conference calls and/or in press conferences in person
- The Big Ten holds weekly coaches conference calls for all coaches. Penn State also conducts a weekly press conference during the week and organizes a weekly conference call. While not required, it would be beneficial to pay attention and perhaps ask questions during those calls.
- Representing Nittany Lions Den in the event of a media interview request to discuss the football team
- Including radio interviews, online Q&As etc.
This position will be slightly more demanding in terms of schedules than the rest of the staff, but it will allow the correspondent to be flexible with their schedule and content as well.
We are also now beginning to search for a reporter to cover the men’s and women’s basketball teams. The requirements will not be quite as strenuous as for the football position.
Those who should inquire about any available position should be prepared to remove themselves from being a fan and ready to act professionally. Our site is syndicated by various local media outlets as well as Yardbarker and FOXSports.com and our prospective online partners should be growing in to football season. Most of our staff is made up of current Penn State students, and a student looking to get in to communications and journalism would be the ideal candidate, but we will welcome anyone interested to inquire about the positions.
We would like to have a football correspondent named by August 1, with the intent on having a representative on hand for Penn State football media day on August 9.
