Henrik in Vezina Lead, Hart Consideration

Dave Lozo at NHL.com feels Henrik Lundqvist is leading the field for the Vezina Trophy…

“Take away the excellent season of Blues goaltender Brian Elliott, who has made just 28 starts, and Lundqvist is almost lapping the field in every category. Lundqvist is first in save percentage (.940), has the lead in shutouts (eight), is second in goals-against average (1.75) and his 30 victories are tied for fourth, behind three goaltenders who all have made more starts. While the Rangers’ blue line has been battling injuries all season (Marc Staal, Michael Sauer, Steve Eminger), Lundqvist has been a rock and the No. 1 reason New York is atop the Eastern Conference.”

…Lundqvist has always had the physical tools, but his dedication towards becoming better mentally has taken his game to another level. He is the runaway winner for the Vezina and if he can stay in this groove he might be hoisting another trophy in the middle of June.

Lozo and Dan Rosen also feel Lundqvist deserves Hart Trophy consideration as well…

…will be real tough to knock off Malkin, but Marty Biron’s last couple of starts has given Rangers fans some insight into how ordinary this team would be without Lundqvist.

Speaking of Lundqvist, yesterday he was a guest on the Michael Kay radio show, ESPN Radio. To listen to his interview, click the “Read More” tab below.

…funny to hear Lundqvist say he’s glad everyone’s still on the team after the deadline. Wolski? You’d think Hank would remember the guy who was always hogging the tub.

…awesome that Lundqvist admitted that he gets extra motivated when facing Brodeur. As if his numbers head-to-head against Brodeur (22-6-5 with six shutouts) didn’t already verify it.
