“Henry Rowengartner” Hopes to Bring Cubs Luck

-4

Long before Kris Bryant made his mark on Chicago…the city belonged to Henry Rowengartner.

While plenty is being made about the supposed “Back to the Future” prophecy (you know…the one where the Chicago Cubs win the World Series because a movie said so), everyone fails to recall that the famed time travel trilogy isn’t the only film to predict a Windy City winner.

Yeah…I’m talking about “Rookie of the Year”.

You’ll recall (or not…that’s on you) that in the 1993 film, the 12-year-old Rowengartner led the Loveable Losers to the World Series after defeating the New York Mets. Wednesday night, the team is calling on their secret weapon to again work his magic.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js“Usually when I go to the game, I wear the jersey the Cubs made for me with my last name, Nicholas, on it, but I called the team and I said, ‘Can you make a Rowengartner jersey for me?’” actor Thomas Ian Nicholas told ESPN.com late Tuesday night. “I’ve never done that. I haven’t worn a Rowengartner jersey since the movie, but I feel like we kind of need it right now. It’s kind of like my rally cap.”

But Nicholas, whose band (coincidentally) also has a gig in Wrigleyville isn’t just root, root, rooting for the home team because they made him a jersey…dude’s been pulling for the Cubs since before they reached the NLCS.

“I really hope Back to the Future Part II is correct,” Nicholas told Rolling Stone. “I mean, we already have hoverboards so let’s hope they get the Cubs part right as well.”

We’ll know soon enough.
