Last week the Denver Nuggets threw in the wild card that they will no longer be needing the services of reigning NBA Coach of the Year, George Karl. Well the coaching cookie continues to crumble as now the Memphis Grizzlies have decided not to give former Head Coach Lionel Hollins a new contract. This an extreme surprise to basketball fans alike, but if you take a closer look you may understand why in one way or another.
With a newer generation comes newer and more innovative ideas that can be brought to light. George Karl may not fit into the role of a “younger” front office and it may be harder for him to find a job. I mean there are numerous former players who have been deemed the title of assistant again and again. Former players like Brian Shaw, Aaron Mckie and newly retired Jason Kidd are all notable former players who are highly interested in being the head man in charge on the bench. I mean think about, Brian Shaw was an assistant with the Indiana Pacers and soaked up so many innovative ideas, he is sure to be a good solid head coach for a team. Aaron Mckie would be a great fit for the Philadelphia 76ers. He is a local guy, played his college basketball at Temple University, and he has been the 76ers assistant for good while now under former head coach Doug Collins. He could be a good fit for the Sixers at this current state of disarray. He knows the front office and can make good managerial choices that can help the team take the next step.
Bottom line, whether its Lionel Hollins, Brian Shaw, or Aaron Mckie, the Sixers are still without a head coach and the coaching carousel is going full speed in circles. I feel the big signing of the first notable coach could happen in the next few days, especially with the NBA Draft only a few days away.
