Here Is A Very Interesting Tidbit About NJPW’s Booking Compared To WWE

Vince McMahon & Gedo

As shown on much of WWE’s shows, the inconsistency of booking matches and storylines can sometimes seem glaringly last-minute. At times, there is an idea of where some of the angles are going to go heading into WrestleMania, such as Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34 being the plan for a year, as well as Seth Rollins vs. Triple H at WrestleMania 33 being planned for several months. However, there are many other times where Vince McMahon decides to change his mind due to various reasons.

Popular independent and former Ring of Honor star Jimmy Jacobs, who most recently has been heavily involved in Impact Wrestling, spoke to Fightful about Vince McMahon’s constant changing of booking plans.

“Day of changes to the show happened every week. Something I agree with that Vince says the best idea wins. Even if it’s at the eleventh hour. Let’s do that better thing, not ‘we already have this on paper.’ It would vary. Sometimes it would be minimal, sometimes you’d get to the show (and it changes).”

Compared to WWE’s last-minute booking, which can have some pros and cons (many, unfortunately, view WWE’s overall booking as cons), Dave Meltzer recently revealed on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio that the booking of New Japan Pro Wrestling is much different.

“You know Gedo books two years ahead? You know when you watch New Japan and all his stories, you know he books  you would go, ‘he’s obviously booking nine months ahead.’ But it’s actually two years.”

While two years ahead is a bit of a surprise, as Meltzer stated, the feeling of him booking far out in advance is not a surprise at all. This was mainly displayed over the past two years with the feud between Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega.

After a 1-1-1 record between the two in singles competition, Omega was able to win the main event of Dominion 6.9 and capture the IWGP Heavyweight Championship for the first time. This feud was not only highly engaging, but also had some fantastic matches. In fact, The Floor Seat voted this match at Dominion as the best match of 2018.
