Former ‘Nova guard Darrun Hilliard and former Penn State guard DJ Newbill are readying up for the upcoming NBA Summer League.
Hilliard was drafted 38th overall by the Detroit Pistons, and will be playing Summer League ball with them. According to Keith Pompey, Newbill will be playing in the Summer League with the LA Clippers.
Hilliard at Villanova
The 6’6″ guard averaged 14.3 points per game in both his Junior and Senior campaigns. Hilliard is a very good shooter who can also put the ball on the floor and finish well around the rim. The Bethleham, Pa., native will bring instant offense off the bench for the Pistons, and will develop with some proper grooming from coach Stan Van Gundy.
Newbill at Penn State
Newbill score 20.7 points per game his senior season at PSU, which was good for 1st in the Big Ten. Somehow, he wasn’t an All-B1G selection, however, his game is built for the next level. He can shoot the 3, but he’s at his best when he puts the ball on the hardwood and looks to shoot off the dribble. Newbill also has ice in his veigns, and I truly believe he would be worth signing. I think it’s pretty ridiculous that he went undrafted, and he will show that in the Summer League.
