The St. Louis Blues haven’t exactly been very impressive in the preseason. In fact, they’ve been pretty bad. Most of that can be assigned to the fact that 1) the team is using young players who won’t be starters to see what they’re made of, 2) it’s the preseason, 3) everyone is a bit rusty and 4) it’s the preseason. Still, coach Ken Hitchcock made an interesting comment following the team’s 5-4 loss to Columbus.
Hitch: "It's a good wake-up call for our veteran players … to get them engaged." #stlblues

A preseason loss is a wake-up call? Let’s not get too carried away. It’s pretty doubtful any players were too upset or too troubled by the team’s loss against the Blue Jackets. Sure, letting the opponent jump out to a big lead at home isn’t ideal, but it’s hard to get worked up or to give a second thought to a preseason result.
The Blues aren’t sharp. There’s time to fix that, but it’s important for everyone, coaches included, to keep things in perspective. Overreacting to a result which literally doesn’t count isn’t the best of ideas. Save your anger, save your comments regarding veterans and wake-up calls for when they’re needed and something is on the line.
