It was a great day for hockey at Amalie Arena last Sunday. Lightning Made Hockey put on their second annual “Hockey Day In Tampa Bay” celebration and a great time was had by all. Things got underway early with a street hockey tournament on Ford Thunder Alley. The festivities moved indoors as the USF Ice Bulls took on the University of Tampa Spartans. USF earned a 6-3 victory and forward Stephen DeMarco scored a highlight reel worthy goal that thrilled the crowd.

John Tortorella stepped back behind the bench for the Lightning Conference All-Star game and led his team of high school hockey players to a 4-2 victory over Team Andreychuk. Torts went on to coach Team Fire in their 8-4 win against Team Police in the Battle of the Badges. In the final game of the day the Manatee Admirals defeated the Mitchell Mustangs 10-3 to win the Lightning Cup Championship game. Fans closed out the day by enjoying a watch party as the Lightning took on the San Jose Sharks out in California.
Executive Director of Community Hockey Development Jay Feaster and the rest of the Lightning organization are to be congratulated. But what else would you expect from a former Stanley Cup Champion General Manager and a World Class organization?
It was a wonderful event that we look forward to enjoying again in 2016.
