It’s been a while since I’ve had the chance to post, but I, Steve, am the father of a 20 month-old boy. Back in April I took him to his first hockey game, where the Coyotes dominated the Avalanche. Ever since we went, he has been very interested in hockey. Whenever it’s on TV he will just stop and watch and tell us repeatedly that hockey is on. He’s getting very good with his talking skills in general, so just for fun, before the 2nd round of this year’s NHL playoffs, I asked him to pick which team he likes to win each of the upcoming series. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but I just realized that he currently has 5 out of his first 6 picks correct and has a chance to go 6 for 7. Here’s how he picked:
2nd Round
Penguins vs. Senators: “Pi-burr” – I’m not sure what he was actually trying to say here… maybe “Big Bird”, but it sounded more like Pittsburgh than anything related to Ottawa so that’s what we went with
Bruins vs. Rangers: “Brooon” – No hesitation on this one
Blackhawks vs. Red Wings: “Beek-ock” – I wasn’t sure how this one was going to go. I had never heard him say anything close to either one of these words before but he clearly picked Chicago
Kings vs. Sharks: “Shawk” – He loves Sharks. Easy pick. So far, the only one that he has gotten wrong.
Conference Finals
Penguins vs. Bruins: “Brooon” – Another straightforward pick
Blackhawks vs. Sharks: “Beek-ock” – This was a stunner to me, especially considering his love of Sharks. He’s only been around for 2 seasons and even he knows the Sharks don’t show up for the playoffs, I guess
Finals
Blackhawks vs. Bruins: “Beek-ock” – Another stunner, considering he picked the Bruins without hesitation in the previous 2 rounds. As you may know, the Blackhawks are my home town team and I’ve been following them closely this season, but I don’t think that would have influenced him that much. Based on his picks so far, I guess the chances of the cup returning to Chicago are looking good!
