Along with team president Chris Wright, Fred Hoiberg addressed a group of season ticket holders with perfect attendance before tonight’s lottery and entertained several questions from the crowd. Below is some of what he had to say:
-He started off by talking about team needs, saying they needed a player to protect the rim, a perimeter player, and a point guard (that’s when my companion tapped me on the shoulder and said, “In other words, we need everything.”)
– Alluded to possibly trading some of our picks for a current player
-Discussed wanting to bring Nikola Pekovic here next season but said, because of his buyout, they probably wouldn’t be able to do so until 2010. He said that Pekovic has been described as the best center in Europe by other players.
-Big Al Jefferson’s rehab is on schedule and he should be ready by training camp
-Corey Brewer’s recovery is a couple weeks ahead of schedule. The player wants to participate in summer league but the team isn’t super keen on the idea
-Said that there have recently been several untrue statements in the mainstream media and blogosphere in regards to the team’s GM search. He stressed that Wolves owner Glen Taylor has NOT mandated that any of the candidates keep either Kevin McHale or Hoiberg in the front office.
-He talked about what he described as a lengthy interview process for the GM position. In addition to a 4-5 hour interview with Taylor in Mankato, Hoiberg also underwent a psychological evaluation and was put in role playing situations.
-On when the new GM would be hired, Hoiberg said “soon.”
