Cincinnati 5, Milwaukee 4 (11)
St. Louis 4, Chicago 3
Florida 10, Philadelphia 8
Brewers 4.5 back in NL Central (5.0 in loss column)…elimination number=14
Brewers 3.0 ahead in NL Wild Card (3.0 in loss column)…elmination number =15
So…the Brewers didn’t lose any ground in either race…nor did they lose ground (well, except the loss reduces the elimination or “magic” number–the number of Cubs’ wins and Brewers’ losses until elimination).
The game? The Crew manufactured a run in the first, and the Reds didn’t tie it up until the 5th at 1-1; Cincy’s 3-run 6th was offset by the pinch-hitter Ray Durham’s 3-run homer in the 7th. Ned Yost used 7 relievers on the night–it was the 7th, Seth McClung, that allowed an RBI single to Brandon Phillips that handed the Crew the defeat.
The Crew needs to win Wednesday afternoon to avoid the sweep, and to end their 3-game losing streak…and to get a winning streak started before heading to Philly…where each win will cut the Wild Card elimination number by 2.
