Hornets Turn Down the Heat, Claiming 2nd Victory

Hey, the Hornets resembled what the team looked like at the end of last season, only better.  Everyone that saw minutes scored, good defense was played, we were active on the boards, and we had 3 score in double-figures.  We were able to hold it together and walk away with a victory.

I made mention that we looked like the team from last season, only better.  Well, I’m referencing that we had our shooting guard with 13 rebounds.  He led the team with 13 rebounds!  That’s the shooting guard.  Those rebounds were huge for us.  Al had 10 of his own to go along with 28 points.  Kemba contributed 18 points and 7 assists.

My Trade Street Post player of the night should probably go to Al Jefferson, but since he was the Sprite player of the game, I’m going to praise another.  Cody Zeller gets the award.  In 18 minutes, Cee Zee gave us 13 points, 8 rebounds, a block, and an assist.  Most impressive was that any time Cody was on the court, Chris Bosh struggled to score.  As soon as he stepped off and Jason Maxiell or Marvin Williams would come back in, Bosh would score easily.  I’m still thinking that as Lance’s scoring prowess goes up, the starting 5 will include Zeller over Williams.  I think that was the expectation last season with Zeller and McRoberts, but Zeller didn’t flourish quickly, and McRoberts just fit in too well.  New look, new roles for our Hornets players.

PJ Hairston got some playing time last night, and he did what he could with it, scoring 7 points, 2 assists, 2 rebounds, and 3 blocks.  Way to go young man!  I’m looking for PJ’s game to develop quickly with his increased playing time.

Hopefully we will have Michael Kidd-Gilchrist back for Friday’s game against the Hawks.  I don’t want him to rush back if he isn’t ready, but I would like to see more of him on the floor, and his improved game.  If we play to our strengths, we should be able to clip the Hawks’ wings, and pull back to .500.

Until Friday…

Let’s Go Hornets!
