Hornets Week one wrap up!

So heres a quick wrap up of this weeks Charlotte Hornets action!

Record 1-2

Overall Record 1-2

This week was a combination of the highest highs, and the lowest lows. Opening night was full of pride and emotion as the team returned the Hornets name to Charlotte. The game, however, looked like trouble as the young Milwaukee Bucks stormed out to a 24 point lead. Kemba Walker and the crowd both rallied the team to force overtime, winning the game on a Kemba jumper.

Since that night, the Hornets have lost back to back heartbreakers to the Grizzlies and Knicks.

Im not going to pour over statistics and bore you with play by play, but here is my honest opinion. This team has gotten out to very, very slow starts in all three games. Shooting has been very weak, and defense has been sloppy.

The offense looks disorganized and choppy, which many are chalking up to chemistry and new pieces. I can get on board with that in part, except when it comes to shooting. The bottom line is this team must improve its outside shooting in order to open up room for Jefferson to operate.

The defense seems to be solid overall, just maybe a few missed switches and rotations. That is one thing that will be cleaned up soon, through practice or changing rotations.

I have one concern that honestly surprises me after the first week, its coaching. The Hornets were involved in three very close games this week, and it comes down to this, Walker was one for three. In the loses, it seemed like the final play called was, get it to Kemba and see what happens. Im no stranger to Kemba Walkers heroics, but I need a little bit more from Coach Clifford. Also, im a bit puzzled by his line-ups, but I will give him a bit more time to work it out, with this side note. If there comes another night where the Hornets do not score 70 points, like in the loss to the Grizzlies at home, I hope to see P.J. Hairston do more than waive a towel.

Until next week, Go Hornets!
