Over the winter we hired Brian Fantana and put him on Horton Watch 2011, after he went 21 days without a goal.
Looks like we need to hire Fantana again as Horton’s off to a super slow start this season. We don’t even need to make a new graphic for Horton Watch. Oof.
Horton has five points in 11 games. Doesn’t help that he’s averaging barely over 1 shot a game. Can’t score if you don’t shoot.
Horton says he feels fine physically but he’s not all there mentally. Is it PCS or just him shying away from the gritty areas, fearing he’ll become the next Marc Savard for Boston?
“I’m still trying to get my game back,” admitted Horton, who has managed points in only four of the team’s first 11 games this season. “I don’t feel 100 percent out there like I’m myself. I’m just trying to get that back.
“With my timing and stuff I still don’t feel like I’m myself out there. I mean . . . I’m fine, but I just need to be better obviously. I just need to be better. I had never had a concussion [before] or whatever. I didn’t know what to expect. Obviously it has [contributed a slow start], but I’m just going to keep working through it. I have to be better, I know I can be better and I want to be better.”
Is he following in Bergeron’s footsteps?
“That Horton’s game has yet to return reminds Julien of the cases of Patrice Bergeron and Marc Savard. On Oct. 27, 2007, Bergeron suffered a career-threatening concussion when he was belted into the Garden boards by Philadelphia defenseman Randy Jones. The next time Bergeron dressed was the following season. That year, Bergeron barely resembled the No. 2 center he had been prior to his injury.” (Boston.com)
Hopefully Hort’s finds his game soon. If it comes down to it, we’ll have to send Purrgeron out for another round of therapy to help Horton find his confidence again. Purrgeron has come through for the Bs and fans before.
