In news that can only be described as not the best, the Cincinnati program has seen two players on scholarship entangled in a police matter.
Freshman Alex Thomas was arrested late Saturday night when he was running away from a party, where there were gunshots, after police showed up. Thomas was caught a block away by the police and arrested. He has since been released. Thomas has pleaded not guilty. His pre-trial will be October 14.
Cincinnati running back Hosey Williams was cited for disorderly conduct while intoxicated. Williams was not arrested. He is, however, due in court on September 25. Interestingly, Williams did not tell the police where he went to school.
The police have concluded their investigation. Both players remain on the roster, and will as the legal process takes shape. A quote on Cincinnati dot com, where this information comes from, says the following:
Hardy said, adding that the case “is now a matter of the judicial system and the University of Cincinnati.”
Bearcats head coach Tommy Tuberville released a statement Wednesday night:
“We have high expectations for the conduct and behavior of every member of our football program at all times. Being a student-athlete at the University of Cincinnati is a privilege, not a right, and there are consequences for their actions. I’m disappointed and we are still gathering information surrounding the depth of involvement in the incident.”
