Andy Oliver was beat up in his 3rd career Major League start, but the Tigers offense picked him up in a 12-9 win today at the CoPa.
Oliver only lasted 1.2 innings after going 6 innings in both of his first two MLB starts. He gave up 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits and 1 walk, increasing his MLB ERA to 5.93. Orioles starter Kevin Milwood was equally awful, giving up 5 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks. Tigers reliever Eddie Bonine picked up his 4th win of the year, pitching 2.2 innings in relief of Oliver.
Summer has finally arrived in the D (temps hit 95° today), and apparently so have the bats. The Tigers offense came out swinging and plated 8 runs in the first two innings. They ended up with 17 hits for the game; Johnny Damon, Carlos Guillen, and Brandon Inge all had 3-hit days. Brennan Boesch was the only Tiger starter to not get a hit, but he scored 3 runs on 4 walks.
