How the Redskins can beat the Cowboys

Let’s be real. The Redskins are awful and the Cowboys are looking great with the best record in the NFL.

Yet the Redskins can beat the Cowboys using ‘guerrilla’ football tactics.  Some Redskins’ old time fans remember the season the Redskins were dominating and threatened to have an undefeated season with just two games left.  Those two games were against pushover teams the first of which was the Cowboys who had a terrible record under new coach Jimmy Johnson

Johnson pulled out the stops – on-side kicks early in the game, trick plays, fakes, you name it. It worked.  The Redskins lost and decided to let their 2nd stringers play the last game to keep the starters fresh for a playoff/Super Bowl run.

A lousy Rams team just did the same thing the Seattle Seahawks last week and won.

Gruden needs to do the same to the Cowboys.  Everybody knows that beating Dallas twice and losing every other game of the year would make the year not so bad in the eyes of a true Redskins fan.  Gruden and company owe the fan base to get off their conservative rockers and let out the stops.

On Special Teams, why not try an early onside kick?  Why not setup a lateral play on a kickoff return?

On Offense, start Compton at Right Tackle.  Eat your pride and start LeRibeus over Lauvao. Give Silas Redd carries and give him a LOT of screen passes.  Go long for DeSean Jackson.  Give Niles Paul the ball because Paul can maul!  But, because Paul is not a conventional Tight End, he’s only getting a few touches a game, which is just pathetic because he is red hot this year.

Actually, that’s the beef with Gruden this year and his play calling – he keeps on insisting on conservative play calling even though it isn’t working.  Go Tight Ends every throw if you have to.  Screen to Redd, Young and Helu until the commentators are sick of it, as long as it is working.  A screen to Morris is a trick play at this point.  Just don’t do a double reverse because our Offensive Line is horrific and their coach is even worse.  And when you see players like Logan Paulsen totally choking this year, don’t feed them the ball!  Now’s the time to see who is hungry and can ball with some of the benchwarmers.
