The Matchup
Last time
Led by Paul Pierce’s 27 points and Jason Terry’s long range shooting, the Celtics beat the Hawks, 107-102, in double overtime earlier this month. Boston pissed away a 27-point lead in a loss to the Hawks on Jan. 25, and rallied from a 19-point deficit to beat Atlanta on Jan. 5.
This time
Get it to: Paul Pierce
The Truth is averaging 21.5 ppg vs the Hawks this season. He also rebounds very well (7.3 rpg) against them.
Gotta stop: Al Horford
With KG out, who the heck is going to stop this beast? He’s averaging nearly 21 and 12 in his last 5 games.
The Wild Card: Kyle Korver
After torching the Celtics for 27 points on 8 threes in the January win vs Boston, Korver was held to 3 points on 1-5 shooting the last time these teams met. He will remain a focus for Doc’s defense. Courtney Lee is a game-time decision. His return would help Boston’s perimeter defense.
How we see it goin’ down
The Hawks have lost 6 straight in Boston and 15 of 17, but just showing up at the Garden isn’t going to guarantee a win. The Celtics might be playing their worst basketball of the season (and that’s say A LOT).
I’m particularly concerned how the Celtics will defend the mobile Josh Smith and Al Horford without Garnett on the floor.
I see the Hawks evening the season series.
Celtics: 95
Hawks: 103
