The Matchup
Last time
Philly took the first meeting this season, 106 – 100, in Boston. Rajon Rondo had 20 assists, but it was Jeff Green’s depressing post-game interview that really caught our attention. The 76ers have won five of their last six at home against the Celtics, including playoffs.
This time
Get it to: Rajon Rondo
The 76ers are a helluva defensive team, so we’ll need Rajon Rondo at his best to ensure optimum offensive efficiency. Rondo needs to excel at all three phases of his game; pushing the ball, finding the open man and hitting jumpers. He also needs to work his ass off defensively, because Jrue Holiday is have a sensational year.
Gotta stop: Evan Turner
He torched the Celtics for 25 points and 11 rebounds in the previous meeting. Turner is a physical wing player who gave Courtney Lee and Jason Terry fits. With Jason Richardson back in the lineup, Turner will now draw Paul Pierce.
The Wild Card: Lavoy Allen vs KG
The Sixers young big man ranks in the 95th percentile among all defenders, allowing 0.667 points per play). We got a taste of his abilities in last year’s playoff series. Will the Celtics attack him in the post, or make him work on the pick-and-pop?
How we see it goin’ down
You know the Celtics want this game. They lost to Philly earlier in the season and are tied with them in the division standings (I know that doesn’t count for much in Dec). The rivalry between these teams is slowly coming back to life.
I can see the road team winning each time in this back-to-back mini series.
Celtics 90
76ers 87
