The Matchup
Last Time
The Celtics toyed with New Jersey in the last game before the All-Star break. The Truth led all scorers with 31 points including a vicious dunk (he's had many of those this season) in the opening minutes. Boston is 3-0 vs New Jersey this season. They've also won 15 of 16.
This Time
Get it to: Kevin Garnett
I love his chances against the other Mr. Kardashian – Kris Humphries. The dude is a banger, but he isn't savvy enought to hang with Garnett. And I see the Celtics taking advantage of his cerebral limitations on the pick and roll.
Gotta stop: Brook Lopez
This is going to be a touch match-up for Nads. The Celtics have done a decent job slowing down Lopez – his numbers this season vs Boston (13 ppg) are much lower than his season average (20 ppg). But that was before the Celtics let the likes of Spencer Hawes and DeAndre Jordan dominate the paint. The Cs will need a team effort to corral Lopez. The return of Glen Davis will certainly help.
Wild Card: Deron Williams
Williams has missed the last two games due to the birth of his child. He's averaging 15 points and 15 assists per game since landing in New Jersey. His size makes him a tough cover for Rajon Rondo.
How we see it goin' down:
While I'm hoping the Celtics approach this game with the same defensive intensity we saw against Milwaukee, I'm skeptical. This is the dreaded 2nd night of a back to back. Brook Lopez scares me… a lot. Deron Williams also tends to have solid games against us. With that said, I still like the Celtics to pull this one out… by a narrow margin.
