First things first. The NFL thrives on attention, both good and bad. This morning, EVERYONE is talking about the debacle that was the ending of yesterday’s game. This won’t change anything. People are still watching the games, the NFL is still greedy, and the Packers still lost. The more that we talk about the game, and the fact that everyone will watch again next week means that the inability for these refs to execute the job they have been forced into is completely irrelevant to the NFL. Getting upset about it does nothing.
Second, I have noticed that nobody has really said that the Seahawks didn’t deserve to win. They played the Packers physically, even overpowering them in many different ways. They had more yards on the ground, for one thing. The passing yardage was heavily slated towards the Packers, but so were the sacks. The Seahawks took down Aaron Rodgers 8 times.
Green Bay simply wasn’t the clearly better team in this game, but they are a very good team regardless. They will still make the post season (barring injury or an unforeseen run of incompetence) and be able to perform in front of real referees, or at the very least, scabs with a full year of experience. In the end, the result of this one game is probably going to be irrelevant, because the Packers have strong leadership, and the Seahawks re going to be pretty good this year.
Even if you disagree with me on the previous two paragraphs, and I don’t fault you if you do, you can’t disagree with the first. Getting irate over he call does nothing. Fan anger doesn’t accomplish anything with the NFL, because they still have billion dollar TV contracts, and people will still talk about football especially in these controversial times. This is a disaster for the fans, but not for the league. Unless you stop watching and stop talking about the problems the league is creating, everything is still coming up roses for the NFL.
