I feel the need . . . the need for speed!

You’re damn right I blatantly stole a line from Top Gun! That need for speed comes from one of I feel the need . . . the need for speed!the most unlikely sources — former San Antonio Spurs center David Robinson.

Robinson tweeted Ray Wert, Editor in Chief of the Gawker Media owned automotive website Jalopnik, asking what kind of sports car is best for a 7-footer like himself.

Once, a long time ago, I saw The Admiral at an event in Port Aransas and he rolled up in what I’m pretty sure was a Porsche 911. I was amazed he was able to unfold himself and get out of that car, but it happened. So I can’t blame big Dave for wanting some space.

Wert and Jalopnik responded to Robinson, saying their first suggestion was the Nissan GT-R.

“With its track-tuned AWD system and 530-horsepower V6 there’s no doubting its sporting intentions. It’s also gigantic (there’s a reason why we call it Godzilla). With 44.6 inches of legroom and 35.8 inches of headroom it has more space up front than some sedans. If it works for Andrew Bynum it might just fit The Admiral.”

I was in Monterey, CA recently and saw a couple of these cars up close (one in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn Express oddly enough). It’s a great looking car. The guys driving them however, how do I put this nicely? Let’s just say they could be best described by a word that starts with a “D” and ends with a “Bag”. I can’t, off the top of my head, think of a better sports car for Robinson to get, I would just caution that he not join any Nissan GT-R car clubs. From what I can tell he wouldn’t fit in with the other owners.

What about you Spurs fans? What kind of car do you think will fit Robinson or any other Spurs player?
