Brackett almost became a broker
He was positioning himself to take the Series 7 Examination, formally known as the General Securities Representative Examination. As a senior and with the help of Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano, Brackett hooked up with an individual in Philadelphia who “did real estate, a lot of business transactions, some stock trading.
“It was a great job,” he said.
One thing kept Brackett from following through: a shot at the NFL, even though he knew it was a long shot. He approached Schiano, thanked him for opening doors, but informed him he had to pursue a dream.
Undrafted, Brackett signed as a rookie free agent with the Colts on May 1, 2003.
“I told him, ‘Look, coach, this might be my last shot that I have to play football, so I’m going to give it everything I’ve got. If it doesn’t work, I’ll be more than happy to go work for the guy,’ ” Brackett said. “I just wanted to have an opportunity to prove myself.
