Rob Neyer posts about Bill James‘ statement that players appear to peak defensively much earlier than they do offensively (James’ initial post is behind his paywall). It’s interesting because it’s fairly surprising and it’s a real reminder that with all the strides that have been made in defensive metrics in the last few years, we don’t necessarily know a whole lot about what we’re going to find.
Marty Brennanmen, the Reds’ play-by-play announcer, absoultely destroyed most of the NL Central (particularly the Pirates) for no reason that I can tell beyond that he’s a grump old man. The Reds are not happy.
