Impact Shock SKC in a Game of “Firsts” for Montreal

The Montreal Impact earned an impressive shut out at the home of the MLS‘ Eastern Conference leaders, Sporting Kansas City. The Impact won by a scoreline of 2-0 in front of 20,404 at LiveStrong Park.

This marked Montreal’s first ever road victory in MLS play. One that I don’t think many supporters of the club will soon forget. Making the win even more impressive is the fact that SKC hasn’t lost at home at all this season.

Felipe opened the scoring for the Impact in the 30th minute by blasting home a left-footer shot from 30 yards out. It was Felipe’s first ever MLS goal and was assisted by Justin Braun which was his first assist of the season.
Impact midfielder Patrice Bernier, who was in the starting lineup for the first time since March 31, doubled his team’s lead in the 64th on a penalty kick.

SKC defender Aurélien Collin took down Montreal’s Lamar Neagle in the box and it resulted in Bernier burying his first MLS goal.

I agree with Bernier that this was a huge win for the club and he was happy to help his team get the W.

After the game he said, “It’s an important victory for us against a team that is doing well this season. This game is proof that we have a lot of character. I am happy to be back on the pitch and to have contributed to the win.”

An interesting statistic I found, the Impact only had possession for 33.9% of the game vs SKC!

Montreal has extended their streak of not allowing a goal to 288 minutes played. That spans their last two MLS games and their 0-0 draw in the Canadian Cup game against Toronto FC.
