In darkness

I have no idea who thought it was a good idea to schedule Pirate games on the west coast in mid-September, but they pretty much assured that this season is going to disappear pretty much unnoticed and unmourned. Perhaps it’s a good thing that not many Pirate fans will be watching tonight: Dana Eveland starts against the Buccos again and the last time it happened the result was so depressing and soul-sucking that I don’t think anyone would’ve complained if they just canceled the rest of the season.

They haven’t actually done that, though. There are 13 games left. Tonight is one of them. Ross Ohlendorf makes another start on his comeback trail for the Pirates. With a win, he would double his win total since Opening Day 2010. I don’t put much stock in those kinds of stats, but still … damn.
