I suggested that the negativity surrounding the team, not necessarily aimed at the players but at the decision to rest starters and not go for a perfect season, might have brought the players closer together.
“My thing is, and I can’t speak for everybody else but I’ve got to be personal about this, and I think a lot of guys feel like this too, I hate the fact our head coach had to take all the blame and suffering for that,” Session said of the “sitdown” decision. “We like coach (Jim) Caldwell a lot. We’re proud of what he’s done with this team up till now.
“For him to be shamed like that, we take that personal, I personally take that personal. It makes us want to win it more for him just to prove to all the critics it was the right decision, he did the right thing, he has a handle on this team, he’s doing what’s best to win a Super Bowl. That’s what the fans want us to do, win the Super Bowl.”
