As a fan of neither team, really, and as a taxpayer in the state of Minnesota, I have to say, deciding which ownership group I like more between the Wilfs and the Vikings and Glen Taylor and the Timberwolves is very easy, and this post won’t last too long.
Zygi Wilf came to Minnesota and almost immediately began begging for money to build a stadium here. He didn’t try to connect with Minnesotans, he just wanted to get a new stadium and wanted Minnesotans to pay for it. He isn’t from here, doesn’t live here and will only reap profit off the back of the state. He is utterly transparent in his pursuit of cash, and nothing more. He has no loyalty, and feels no responsibility to Minnesotans.
Glen Taylor is from Minnesota. The Target Center needs renovations in order to keep the Timberwolves relevant. Perhaps you didn’t hear about that because Taylor hasn’t been overbearing in his pleas for government handouts. In fact, the Timberwolves have been such good tenants, and the Target Center is such a useful facility for the entire city that Minneapolis even went to bat for the Wolves when securing funding for the upgrades. Now, Taylor has consolidated his ownership and the only investors he would like to add to the team are fellow Minnesotans. Not only does he want to invest in Minnesota, he wants Minnesota to invest in the team, but only if they want to. Maybe this is all disingenuous. I don’t know Glen Taylor. Even if it is, at least he is saying and doing the right things.
