-
RF Nelson Cruz (left hamstring strain) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 29. He is expected to be activated from the DL on Sept. 13.
-
RHP Darren O'Day (right shoulder inflammation) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 25 and is expected to be activated Sept. 13.
-
RHP Wilmer Font (Tommy John surgery in October 2010) was called up from the minors and placed on the 60-day disabled Sept. 1.
-
RHP Omar Beltre (back surgery in February 2011) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 22, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 8. He began a rehab assignment with the Rangers' rookie-level affiliate in the Arizona League on June 30, but after a July 3 outing, he never pitched again.
-
RHP Brandon Webb (right shoulder surgery in August 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 22, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 14. He was throwing bullpen sessions in early and mid-April, and he threw batting practice April 20. Webb pitched in extended spring training in late April and early May. Webb made his first rehab assignment start May 30 for Class AA Frisco, but he felt discomfort afterward. He received a cortisone shot and was told to sit out for a week. He resumed his rehab assignment with Frisco on June 14 but was scratched from his July 1 rehab start for Class AAA Round Rock because of shoulder discomfort. He underwent an MRI exam July 5, and he was shut down for the season. He had surgery Aug. 3 to clean up his rotator cuff area.
-
RHP Mason Tobin (right elbow tightness) went on the 60-day disabled list April 20. He had season-ending Tommy John surgery June 1.
News/Notes:
-
OF Nelson Cruz is expected to be activated from the DL tonight, the first day he's eligible to return from a strained hamstring. The Rangers will try to convince Cruz not to run too hard on the hamstring at the start, but he is expected to go back into the starting lineup. If so, it will be the first time the Rangers have had their full lineup since July 22.
-
2B Ian Kinsler begins the week with 141 games played this season, three shy of his career high. Kinsler has spent time on the DL in every previous season but has not had any injuries this year. Kinsler also has a shot at the second 30-30 season of his career. He enters the final 15 games with 28 home runs and 24 steals.
-
DH Michael Young needs seven hits over the final 15 games for the sixth 200-hit season of his career but the first since 2007. Perhaps as significant: Young has a shot at the lowest strikeout total of his career. He has 77 strikeouts. He has never had fewer than 89 strikeouts in a season.
-
LHP Michael Kirkman, who was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock after it was eliminated from the Pacific Coast League Playoffs, and RHP Darren O'Day, who is to be activated from the DL, are expected to be the last reinforcements for the bullpen.
-
LHP Matt Harrison, who held Boston to two runs in seven innings after being skipped once in the rotation, makes his second post-rest start on Tuesday. It will be his first appearance against Cleveland since August 2008. Harrison lasted just 3 2/3 innings in that start.
