Indians officially eliminated from playoffs

They were probably eliminated back in June, but it’s official tonight.

We’re 9 games back of Chicago with 9 games to play.  Technically, we can still tie them, but the only way to do that is for us to win all our games and Chicago to lose all theirs…and if that happens, it means Minnesota will have won three games over Chicago next week, propelling their win total past ours.  Therefore, there’s nothing we can do now.

Blame it on the injuries and CCs bad start, whatever you wish.  This season was probably doomed early.  But if you were paying attention, the Indians showed a LOT of character down the stretch.  They won 27 of their last 40 games.  They’ve also gone 8-2-2 in their last 12 series (how the hell did they do that, and the 2 series losses were to Seattle and Kansas City?)

Plus, they’ve got a 22-game winner with two starts left in his season.  Cliff Lee’s got the Cy Young wrapped up with a bow for him.

The only thing left to do is knock the Red Sox on their asses next week and help give Tampa Bay a division title.

Then we can sit back and laugh at Detroit and New York, who tried to buy themselves another championship and ended up missing the playoffs badly.
