It’s Week 6 of the 2010 season, and the 3-2 Colts travel to the nation’s capital to take on the 3-2 Washington Redskins on Sunday Night Football.

Colts win a close game on a strong running attack and several big plays. In pre-game interviews, the Colts listed being consistent, containing Donovan McNabb, and stopping the run as keys to a victory. How’d they do?
Pre-Game Objectives
- Consistency in all three phases: The only thing consistent about the Colts on Sunday night was that all three squads were equally inconsistent. 170 yards rushing and a couple really nice catches helped overcome a fumble, two near interceptions, and several drops for the offense. Good defensive pressure on the Redskins quarterback and two interceptions helped to offset allowing three touchdowns on four red zone trips and incalculable completions over the middle. And two special teams fumbles plus two missed field goals makes it easy to forget that we have one of the best kicking tandems in the league. Grade: D
- Contain Donovan McNabb: McNabb threw one touchdown and two interceptions while accumulating a passer rating of 67.5, but the final numbers are misleading. Even with great penetration by the Colts defensive line, the kind of penetration which eventually resulted in three sacks, McNabb continually fought off tackles, escaped to the outside, and continually completed passes over the middle. Grade: C
- Stop the run: Washington running backs averaged 4.7 yards per carry while accumulating 113 total yards. For those of us who haven’t yet successfully blocked the memories of previous 200+ rushing games against the Colts, this was rather painless. Grade: B
