Freshman speedster Thomas Tyner left the Hatfield-Dowlin complex in street clothes, wearing a walking boot and on crutches.
Jason Quick of the Oregonian reported that Tyner was wheeled out of practice on a cart. In post-practice interviews head coach Mark Helfrich seem to suggest that the boot was precautionary, telling Quick, “To my knowledge he is 100%. The boot business is a good business. I should have gotten into that business.”
100% for Tyner is a 10.38 100 meters, so clearly the coach was trying to deflect attention. Numerous outlets Tuesday evening, including Addicted to Quack, John Canzano, and Quick, indicated that the boot was precautionary and the freshman tailback was not seriously injured.
Tight end Pharoah Brown, however, currently has a leg in a hard cast which won’t be removed before Monday. He told reporters that he’s likely to be limited and could miss the Nicholls game.
Rob Moseley reported from practice that running back Byron Marshall had a pair of long runs in today’s situational scrimmage and also hauled in a 25-yard pass from Marcus Mariota. Tyner may be okay in a few days, but even if this delays his development, the running game appears to be in good shape.
