Darren Collison will miss his third straight game tonight when the Kings face the Bulls in Chicago, Cowbell Kingdom has learned. Rudy Gay is also questionable with a sore left foot and will be a game-time decision.
Collison injured his right hip flexor on a drive to the hoop against the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday. According to the 27-year-old guard, the Kings are taking a cautious approach to the injury and it is unlikely that he will suit up before the All-Star break which begins on Thursday.
Tonight’s game will be the sixth this season that Collison has missed. He is averaging a career-high 16.1 points, 5.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game in his first season in Sacramento. Ramon Sessions will once again replace him in the starting lineup.
Gay was a surprise scratch from Sunday’s game. He injured his left foot coming down on DeMarcus Cousins’ foot in Saturday’s loss in Utah. Gay has missed four games this season due to injury and his 19.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists a night will be difficult to replace if he cannot go.
Omri Casspi started in Gay’s place on Sunday, but finished with three points on 1-of-4 shooting in 20 minutes of action.
As for Kings rookie Eric Moreland, he remains out for the season with a left shoulder labral tear. The 23-year-old made three NBA appearances this season, totaling one field goal and one rebound in two minutes.
