KG has missed Brooklyn's last four games with back spasms, and is a decent bet to miss this evening's tilt at home against the Kings too |
UPDATE: KG is out tonight, according to multiple Nets beat reporters. Plumlee will start for him.
Just rehashing what's going on with the Brooklyn Nets' two resident former Celtics veterans in terms of injuries:
Kevin Garnett, who has been sidelined with back spasms for over a week now, missed Friday's loss in Boston against his old team and doesn't look great for returning against the Kings tonight. Sacramento is a young and athletic team, other than former Nets Reggie Evans and Travis Outlaw, which is certain to cause some problems for the slower Nets. However, the Kings are bad enough that Jason Kidd shouldn't feel like he has to play Garnett in order to get a win.
There's no reason for KG to be rushed back onto the court when his back is still bothering him a lot, so I would actually be surprised if he suited up tonight. If he doesnt, Mason Plumlee will get the start at center again, which hasn't been the worst of things for the Nets, who have won four of five and are looking to go back over the .500 mark after reaching it for the first time this season on Wednesday against Memphis.
Meanwhile, Paul Pierce has been going through his own injury struggles of late. Pierce first appeared to hurt his neck against the Grizzlies and experienced a recurrence of that injury on Friday in Boston. It hasn't stopped him from playing in any games but has limited his play a bit in recent days, but hopefully is something temporary. He's more likely to play on Sunday night but with his age, Kidd's caution with his players, and the opponent, Pierce sitting out wouldn't be a shock.
